An Afternoon of Conversation and Performance
Sat 13 Feb
Free, all welcome
DRAF hosts the second day in its series looking at performance through discussion and live acts.
Programme
3pm
Louise O'Kelly (Block Universe Performance Festival) speaks to curators Capucine Perrot (formerly Tate), Lucia Pietroiusti(Serpentine Galleries), and Nicola Lees (Independent Curator, formerly Frieze Projects) about the ecosystems of performance, and how it is supported and presented within London's institutional structures.
4pm
Screening of Babette Mangolte’s 1973 Calico Mingling, a black and white film of Lucinda Childs' minimalist choreography.
5pm
Louise O'Kelly chairs a second discussion asking London-based artists Stuart Brisley, Edward Thomasson and Florence Peake to discuss their experiences of collaborating with institutions to develop and present performances.
6.30pm
A new performance I'LL CHANGE WHEN I"M READY by IMMA for DRAF Studio, her first collaboration with a London institution. Originally trained as a dancer, IMMA studied at Parsons The New School for Design in New York and Central Saint Martins, specialising in Performance Art. Her performances are a compilation of his childhood memories and references, combined with the influence of Leigh Bowery, Grace Jones, Cindy Sherman and John Waters. Her work aims to broaden the limitations of movement to arrive at unforeseen outcomes.
7pm
A special live music set by Pumarosa, a five-piece band from London whose music has been described as “industrial spiritual” and which brings together the brooding, heavier songwriting of PJ Harvey or Patti Smith with the groove-led and nocturnal electronics of The Knife and Cocteau Twins.
Thanks to Arts Council England and DRAF Galleries Circle for supporting performance and education at DRAF.
